Active crisis training classes are an excellent way to prepare your staff for a dangerous situation. This type of training should be at the top of your list when discussing incident response initiatives. There are many safety and security devices on the market to assist with access control and incident response plans. However, the most efficient active crisis training method is incident response training and awareness. Most safety and security training focuses on the problems rather than solutions.

How Do You Focus on an Active Crisis Solution?

Concentrate on identifying a simple method to empower your staff’s options in an actual crisis. Select an incident response plan that will increase workers risk awareness, avoidance, and response timing. The key is to prepare staff with options that they could use in most any situation.  The “run, fight, or hide” is maybe the most efficient method to use for any type business.

Furthermore, local police departments, fire and rescue departments and numerous military bases offer an active crisis training class to businesses and civilians. Moreover, everyone should take advantage of these classes. This training could determine the outcome of any given crisis.

Creating an active crisis response plan for your business is crucial. Knowing how to protect employees from the violence in today’s society should be your primary focus. So, let’s dig into what an active crisis response plan is and how to start putting one into effect for your facility.

What is an Active Crisis Response Plan?

People may argue with me, but there is a big difference between a safety plan and an active crisis response plan. A security program includes all safety concerns that can happen on a daily basis. However, an active crisis response plan focuses on the main events that could have a severe impact on the quality of life for you and your staff. An active crisis response plan should be simple and to the point. Proactivity is the best way to respond to an active crisis. People tend to go back to the way they were trained during a high-stress situation. Active crisis preparation lessens the chance of injury.

What Should be the Objectives of an Active Crisis Response Plan?

  1. The program should be organized and accurate for a variety of possible emergencies.
  2. This plan should provide for the safety of all patrons and stakeholders.
  3. This program should include the use of an emergency alert system with the means of communication during an emergency.
  4. The program should also seek to decrease liability that may develop during a crisis.
  5. This program should focus on proactive measures, rather than reactive.
  6. This program should help staff members, patrons, and other team members in identifying and responding to potential threats and emergency situations.

What is the Mission of an Active Crisis Response Plan?

The mission of an active crisis response plan is to use advanced technology and response tactics. Also, the purpose should provide a safe environment through the addition of a practical and efficient active crisis response plan. Moreover, all of these actions combined will create a community response to any situation that threatens their quality of life.

Preparation

[Your Facility] includes the option of choice, to either run, fight, or hide during an active shooter or violent attack crisis. This method will require all current and future faculty members, as well as patrons, to be trained. Monthly training is essential. Practical training should be at the attention of the management.

Starting an Active Crisis Response Plan Policy

[Your Facility] uses a response options method when responding to armed criminals, active shooters, and deadly attacks. This process will allow faculty members any likely assistants or patrons, to guide themselves and others who are on lockdown to make the best decision possible under the given circumstances.  It is recommended that faculty members, assistants, and patrons first trigger lockdown mode in the event of an active shooter or deadly attack.  Once on lockdown, the decisions under the circumstances require them to follow one of the following options:

  1. Freeze and remain in lockdown mode
  2. Counterattack using any available object(s). Remember, don’t try to be a hero. This tactic should ONLY be used if the attacker has gained access to the premises and you are under direct threat.
  3. Evacuate to the predetermined community rally point.

The goal is to give staff options when responding to any threats. Providing options allows them to create a survival mindset should they be in a dangerous situation.
